How to Remove the Thumb.db File from Your Hard Drive

Click on your start menu and go to "My Computer." Open this and click on the "Tools" button located on the top of the window.

Next click "Folder Options" in the dropdown menu that appears. In the window that opens, locate the "View" tab and click it. Place a checkmark on the option labeled “Do not cache thumbnails.”

With this one, click "OK." You can now close out of "My Computer" by clicking the X on the top-right corner of the window.

Remove the Thumbs.db File from Your Hard Drive

Step1

Click "Start" and then "Search." Click on "All Files and Folders" to search for files.

Step2

Type thumbs.db in the text field labeled all or part of the file name. Make sure "Local Hard Drives" is chosen so that the computer checks your hard drive.

Step3

When you have entered all of this information, click "Search." The computer will now start searching for all thumb.db files. When the computer has finished the search, a huge list of thumb.db files should appear.

Step4

Click the "Edit" button located at the top of the window. You then need to click "Select All" from the dropdown menu that appears. All of these files should be highlighted. Click "File" and then "Delete." Your thumbnail files should now be deleted.
